A Whimsical Makeover: The Stenciled Table and a New Camera!

My new has arrived!!! I am so excited to be able to take a nice picture of my newest project.

I had so much fun choosing and using my new stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils.  I look forward to my next project. It might possibly be a wall stencil (if I am feeling brave enough)!

Ok, Ok...I won't make you wait any longer. Here are the decent pictures of my newest project.
French Linen, Old Ochre, Versailles

Did I mention how handy an old barn door is?

I was so thrilled with the pictures that were exploding from this camera that I started running around the house, taking random pictures.

I have also listed a few new items on my Etsy page. Feel free to give it a visit.

A Whimsical Makeover and A Winner!

Congratulations SherryD at Funky Junk @202!
I cant wait to see what you choose! I will help get you in contact with Cutting Edge Stencils.

So remember when I posted this beautiful stencil as my project stencil?
I totally lied and posted the wrong stencil. Pretty awesome for my first sponsorship right? I can only apologize and move on. :)
This is the stencil I requested and received. I am so happy with what I chose. It fit the project perfectly.

Here is the coffee table I have been hanging onto for a while. I didn't have a vision or direction until I started looking through the Cutting Edge Stencils webpage. I wanted to create a muted but fun color pallet so I chose French Linen, Versailles and Old Ochre.

I painted the table and let the base color dry completely. Then I taped on my stencil and began stenciling. I chose not to use a roller because I was using multiple colors in a small space. I was surprised at how quickly the process went. After seeing how easy this was, I can't wait to try their wall decor stencils or a all-over wall stencil.

This is what it looked like with both colors applied.
After the stenciling was done and the paint was completely dry, I took the table into my sanding room and sanded away. Then I applied the wax and it turned out beautifully.

I turned the stencil and added a little flower to each of the folded leaves.

As life would have it, my camera broke this week. It was old and needed to be replaced but I was hoping it could last until Christmas. It did not. These photos were taken with my husbands iphone and I am pleasantly surprised how they turned out. However, my new camera should be arriving this week and I will do an official "photo shoot" and repost this table soon. Think of this as "before" and "almost-after".

My official review of Cutting Edge Stencils will come when I do my fancy shots.

Worky Work, Busy Bee.

I am sure that I don't have to remind my crafting/small business friends what a busy time of year this is. I am a bit new to this but I thought I had mentally prepared myself for the crazy that is the Christmas season. However, I was wrong but wrong in a good way.
My custom orders all lined up neatly. Yep, you are right, that is a corrugated metal wall. My husband installed them in our basement for good looks and functionality.

The shop is busy - That is what we want.
Custom orders are rolling in - That is what I want.
My blog is getting more popular everyday - Exactly what I want.
Did I mention that I am also a First Grade Teacher? My students are well-behaved, good learners and I jump out of bed every morning excited to spend the day with them.
So, all in all, life is a bit hectic but I am loving it and could not ask for more. And then there was this....

We are currently packing up the house and moving into our "forever home".  Who does that?!??!?!  Who moves in the middle of Christmas Crafting Season (imagine all of the glitter and fluff that needs to be in boxes)? Who moves in the middle of the school year? Me, that's who.
Just the thought of attempting to pack some of this stuff gives me a headache. However, I am going to try to pack all of the hard and overwhelming stuff first. That way I will find the end much easier. :) I will let you know how it goes.

So today I sit at my computer, before my husband is even out of bed and try to make it all manageable.  I think I have got it all handled. Hopefully life with help out and not throw anything crazy my way in the next few weeks. I am strictly in survival mode.

Last but not least, don't forget to enter my Cutting Edge Stencils Giveaway. Today is the last day.

Just a bit of stenciling...

When I received my package from Cutting Edge Stencils I was very excited to find an extra stencil for "just for fun" activities. I wasn't quite sure how I was going to use it until I went to my workspace and saw 2 empty picture frames that needed something amazing on the inside.
Cutting Edge Stencils has beautiful all over stencils, wall decor stencils and even classic or fossil stencils. However, I wasn't ready for anything to large yet because we are moving into a new house in 5 weeks. The little stencil is just what I needed. So here is what I did:
I placed my frame on top of the fabric I was thinking of using. I wanted to make sure it would look appropriate.
I traced the back of the frame to make sure I had the correct size and shape.

Then I cut slightly inside the line to allow for wiggle room.

Then I placed the backing and fabric inside the frame and screwed it back together.

Then I laid the stencil on the fabric and placed it where I thought it should go. I am a total eyeballer. I hardly ever measure. I just try my best.
Then I grabbed my favorite color, Duck Egg and I began stenciling.

Now they are placed with a few of my favorite things. It added texture and fun to my display. I LOVE IT!

Here is a glimpse of what they have to offer:

Now for a quick fix. I purchased this table with damaged wood inlays at a garage sale. The legs are amazing but the top needed paint. I was dreading painting the legs because of the carved detail but after a second look at them, I realized what a shame it would be to paint them. So I did a quick fix to the top and a small detail and check out the before and after.

I used one of my new texture techniques I learned from my favorite stockist Christie Carter.
Now here it is in it's temporary home until I take it to the shop.

Please join us this weekend for a wonderful time of shopping and entertainment. Downtown Dekalb has pulled out all of the stops for the festivities.
