A Whimsical Makeover: The Stepback Edition

I would like to preface this post with two things:
1. The before and after photos may not be the most impressive because of color choice.
2. This might be my favorite piece I have ever done.

I have been sitting on this Stepback Cabinet for a few months now. I was not quite sure what to make of it. As it sat on my porch, covered in many different colors of red paint, I began to see red.

No, I wasn't angry at it. I fell in love with the red. Ok, maybe not the 5 different colors of red on it. It looked like someone was testing colors. However, I knew red was they way to go. ASCP Primer Red to be exact.

I love working with Primer Red. It is the perfect barn red and the Dark Wax works wonders on the color.

I needed an accent color to help highlight the unique parts of this cabinet. I chose ASCP Cream, a lovely buttery color.

So here is how it turned out:

I know that it went from a Red "before" to a Red "after. It may not appear super dramatic but boy what a difference.

After I sanded all of the paint off of the top of the base, my wonderful husband stained and treated it with poly.
I used both clear and dark wax on the Primer Red.

I can not tell you how beautiful this piece is in person. It has a smooth and creamy texture. The colors just "pop" next to each other. The Dark Wax got into all of the nooks and crannies.

The quality of this piece is amazing. I hope it goes home with someone who loves it like I do.

This piece will be at the Na-Da Farms Barn Sale. View our "Sneak Peek" here.
