Meet Country Grey - Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Color Review

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to my blog series dedicated to the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint colors.

Here is my disclaimer:
I am not an official Annie Sloan Stockist. I work and sell at a store that carries the paint and I LOVE painting with it. These are my thoughts and my thoughts only. Proceed at your own risk. ;)

This thought popped into my head recently when I was working at the shop. We have painters travel great distances to purchase the paint from the shop and they always as the best questions.

"Does this one cover more like French Linen or Cream?"

"Which colors go well together?"

So I thought I could take each color one-by-one and give my thoughts and tricks.

Here is goes:
Country Grey is a color that I had been wanting to pick up for a long time. It seemed very "me" but there was always another color that HAD to be picked up first. This color is simple and very country. Not "country" in an outdated 1990's way. It is "country" in a farmhouse inspired, casual kind of way. This color works very well in our home. So I finally picked up a can and started painting.

Here are my painted pieces:

Country Grey with Clear and Dark Wax

Country Grey with Clear Wax - Primer Red and Pure White accents

Country Grey with AS Clear Wax and MMS Dark Wax

Color and Wax: Country Grey with Clear and Dark Wax

Coverage: Excellent - This color covers very well. It is similar to French Linen. The shelf (above) was done in one coat. Very pleased with the coverage of this one.

Great Pairings: Country Grey is lovely with Old White, Pure White and Primer Red. I have also seen it paired beautifully with Napoleonic Blue and Arles.

Would I use this again?: Yes. I am considering this color for a new built-in for our house. I am also anticipating a custom order or two.

Clear or Dark: In classic "Laura" fashion - Dark. This color plays to my style when it is dark waxed.

Because of my love of dark wax, I didn't have many pictures with just the clear wax finish. Not to worry. I called on my friend Rachel from My Vintage Verve. She sent me some amazing pictures of her Country Grey pieces.

Final Thoughts: This is a wonderful color. It can be a bit restrictive when pairing with other colors. It is also a bit more green than grey. However, this pieces goes very well on dark wood pieces, next to bright white trim or in a country kitchen. This color is probably in my Top 5 ASCP favorites.

Thanks for visiting.

  1. Lucky you working at a shop that sells the paint...how I wish. I drive about 45 minutes one way to get the paint in the next town up I35. love that tone,I have mixed old white and linen with some dark wax for a similar color..that is what I love about ASCP is how forgiving it is...

  2. I really like the last picture you posted, of the table/shelf! You said you did 1 coat of Country Grey? How do you use the wax and is there a brand you recommend? Do you cover the piece with wax? I'm redoing my grandmother's old dresser that is identical to this and would love some tips! http://s753.photobucket.com/user/EncoreResales/media/Encore%20Resales%20Inventory/2013-04-10_16-11-33_229.jpg.html?sort=6&o=14
    Thanks so much!
